Performance opportunity - John Cage

Catch the Cage wave... e

CALLS FOR ENTRY
INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN JOHN CAGE'S MUSICIRCUS

The Chicago Composers Forum is delighted to announce a major upcoming event - a performance of John Cage's Musicircus, to be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, on Sunday, September 25th, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. First performed in 1967 in the Stock Pavilion at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, Musicircus has since been performed throughout the world but never before in Chicago.

Musicircus - one of Cage's most emphatic statements regarding musical/artistic freedom and a milestone in his output - features simultaneous performances of music, poetry, theater, dance and other arts in a single space. Integral to Cage's philosophy that art is life and his desire for the creation of decentralized, non-hierarchical communities is his insistence that the performance be free to the general public and that no payment be made to the performers.

The Chicago Composers Forum invites you to join us individually or as an organization as an active participant in this extraordinary, high-profile event.

We ask that you agree to give a performance or presentation of at least 15 minutes duration in any art form or style, to be scheduled sometime between 1:00 and 5:00 pm on September 25th. To ensure your participation and to be included in the marketing of this event please respond to the Chicago Composers Forum, by email at musicircus@chicagocomposers.org or by phone at 773.418.0119 as soon as possible (preferably by than July 28). If you can volunteer to help produce/manage Musicircus please let us know that as well.

In your response, include the following information as well as any questions you may have:
1. Your or your organization's name, address, and phone number(s)
2. Your email address and website for promotion
3. What you propose to do (N.B. We are not allowed to use the museum's walls)
4. Approximate duration of act and number of performers
5. Technical requirements
6. If you can volunteer to help us produce/manage Musicircus

We will personally follow up with you to confirm your participation. Logistical details for this event will be distributed over the course of the next few months.

Your participation and/or assistance as a volunteer will ensure the success of Musicircus.
